SAMAL, Bataan — Teachers, parents and members of a barangay council here on Saturday conducted search and destroy operation against dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Barangay chairman Hector Forbes of Sta. Lucia, using grass cutter, led in the cleanup drive at the Samal South Elementary School in the farming village.
The participants cut tall grasses, clean plant boxes, surroundings and clogged canals in the school grounds.
Ito’y isang aktibidad ng barangay para matulungan ang mamamayan lalo na ang magaaral sa Samal South Elementary School dahil sa lumalaganap na epidemya ng dengue,” the barangay head said.
He added that the activity was in cooperation with teachers and parents: “Narito kami ngayon para maglinis upang maiwasan na magkaroon ng dengue sa aming lugar.”
Health record shows that barangay Sta. Lucia has no dengue case.
Dr. Rosanna Buccahan, provincial health officer, said they are in full implementation of the “4S” program of the Department of Health in the country.
“Mag-“4S” at most especially maglinis ng kapaligiran. Kung walang breeding sites ang lamok, walang lamok na kakagat para magkaroon ng dengue ang tao,” Buccahan said.
She reported that there were 771 dengue cases with one death in Bataan from January to July 25, 2019 which is 30 percent lower than the same period last year of 1,100 cases.
