JAEN, Nueva Ecija- – A 41-year-old village head was gunned down by still unidentified men while talking with a group of bantay bayan in Barangay Don Mariano Marcos here before dawn Wednesday.
Police identified the victim as Mark Vic Pascual, first chairman of the said village.
Esperidion Mariano, 54, bantay bayan member, said the victim has just arrived and sat down with them – a few meters away from his house which is at the interior – when a sedan arrived and without a word opened fire. The gunman only rolled down the from right window, he said.
Dennis Pascual, the victim’s uncle and predecessor, said the victim was unopposed during the 2022 elections.
He is the nephew of Mayor Sylvia Austria.
Corrine, the victim’s wife, said she does not know any threat to the life of Pascual even during his term as sangguniang bayan member.
Police are still investigating the case.
