BALANGA CITY — Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) will install more World War II markers in Bataan as tribute to thousands of Filipino and American soldiers who died during the infamous Death March.

PVB Marketing and Corporate Division Head Mike Villa-Real said they have discovered more historical events in the province that have not been memorialized with Battle of Bataan markers.

“There is much more to do and we feel that we owe it to the veterans that we should put up markers for their heroism in Bataan,” Villa-Real said in an interview.

This year, PVB is in coordination with the municipal government of Morong in putting up a marker remembering the Last Calvary Charge.

“We are discussing many things to the local government and they are happy about it because they are not aware it happened in their town,” Villa-Real stressed.

“We also want to put up markers for the Battle of Abucay, Battle of the Points in Mariveles, and many other more so the generations after us can remember or see what happened during World War II,” he furthered.

PVB is continuously conducting activities that will raise funds for the the creation and maintenance of the markers.

Earlier this month, PVB partnered with Philippine Veterans Affairs Office and Provincial Government for the 6th Bataan Freedom Run.

The activity featured a 42km full marathon run up and down Mt. Samat, a 21km half marathon, and a non-competitive 10km and 5km fun run.- PIA 3
