SCIENCE CITY OF MUÑOZ – Multi-awarded and veteran journalist Anselmo ‘Ka Elmo” Roque succumbed to a lingering illness at the Heart of Jesus Hospital in San Jose City Monday. He was 80.

His remains lie in state at the Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Social Hall in this city. The details of interment are not yet certain.

Roque is survived by his wife Corazon, and children, Apollo Jose, Hiyasmin, and Oliver Lee, and six gran children.

A recipient of multiple awards in agricultural journalism, Ka Elmo served as top news correspondent of a number of newspapers, and for decades wrote for the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

He also joined Punto! Central Luzon upon its founding nearly 12 years ago where he specialized in features on agriculture, a number of which won national awards.

As president of the Correspondents Association of Nueva Ecija, Ka Elmo headed Media Forum which was aired in different radio stations in the province.

He also served as director for Nueva Ecija of the Central Luzon Media Association upon its establishment in 1978, a position he held for decades.

After years of teaching, he retired as director of the CLSU Public Affairs Office.

A writer of social concerns, Ka Elmo is also delved in literary writing where a number of his pieces won the Palanca Awards.
