CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – “It’s very difficult for me to leave San Fernando.”
Thus said Mayor Oscar “Oca” Rodriguez on Wednesday when asked if he will run for governor or seek re-election in 2010.
Rodriguez implied that he could run for governor saying “there is a five percent chance but 95 percent is I will seek a third term as mayor.”
He said he had informed President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo about his plan to run for governor similar to what former three-term governor and now Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid did.
Rodriguez said at least three councilors are three-termers and could not seek re-election. They are Councilors Bernie Castro, Raul Macalino and Nelson Lingat.
Asked who will replace the three in their slate, Rodriguez could not name one aspirant.
“There are so many who are applying,” said Rodriguez in jest.
Among those who are also reportedly aspiring for the governorship are Second District Rep. Mikey Arroyo and Three-term Lubao Mayor Dennis Pineda. First-term Gov. Eddie Panlilio will reportedly not seek re-election and may run for a national position.
