He said other internet cafes are being used as front for e-Casinos, other internet-based gaming and “possibly illegal gambling.”
“I am urging Mayor Ed Pamintuan to order concern offices of the city government to do their job of checking and monitoring these establishments,” he said.
It was learned that poker rooms have also proliferated in various hotels and other business establishments during the time of former mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno.
Sangil noted that internet gaming and e-Casinos should be out of the 500 meters radius, far from schools and churches.
He said students could be lured to play and gamble if e-Casinos are near schools and “syndicates mislead us by fronting internet cafes”.
He also added that scrupulous individuals are also using internet cafes as fronts for cybersex dens targeting minors.
It could be recalled that in the previous years, police conducted a series of raids against cybersex dens here during the time of then city director Chief Supt. Jimmy Restua (ret.), who became the assistant regional director of the National Bureau of Investigation.
Sangil also urged top officials here to work hard in transforming the city to become a top tourist haven.
“Angeles City has a lot to offer aside from entertainment. The best and delicious food like Sisig, world class golf and sporting clubs, heritage sites, hotels and malls are all here,” he said.
