ANGELES CITY – As a gesture of appreciation for his support to the US Embassy Golf Club (USEGC), a city businessman-golfer has been invited by no less than the United States Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas to be the sponsored guest at the club’s charity golf tournament to be held in July.

Thomas’ invitation to Ruperto “Perto” Cruz, co-owner and designer of the Royal Garden Golf and Country Club (RGGCC) here, was relayed by Jeff Scearce, the US Embassy’s director for finance and current president of the USEGC.

“On behalf of the US Embassy, Ambassador Harry Thomas wants to express his appreciation for (Cruz’s) gracious hosting of our tournament in Angeles City,” said Scearce.

He also gave a plaque of appreciation to Mike Cruz, brother of Ruperto, for supporting their tournament held at the 18-hole all-weather championship golf course.

Scearce announced that the 3rd Annual U.S. Independence Day Charity Golf Tournament where Cruz will be sponsored guest is set on July 4 at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna.

The USEGC holds annual road trip and tournament at the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac and at the RGGCC for two consecutive days. Cruz sahres ownership of the RGGCC with his Korean partner Nam Suek.

At the Luisita leg last June 15, lady golfer Diana Urmeneta of Makati City emerged as the over-all champion, and placed third at RGGCC tournament won by Efren Alvez.

Scearce disclosed that they have 140 members, mostly US Embassy personnel, Americans based in the Philippines and businessmen who are friends of the American Embassy.
