CLARK FREEPORT – Construction of The Medical City-Clark (TMCC) is in its “final stages,” “in full swing” and “scheduled to open one month earlier, on December 8, 2014.”
Thus said in a statement Dr. Cenon R. Alfonso, TMCC chief executive officer, adding “there is absolutely no truth” to published reports that the construction of the premier hospital at the freeport was stopped as of June 2014, owing to the dispute between the Global Gateway Development Corporation (GGDC) and its contractor, Peregrine Development International, “(GGDC) has assured us that they will continue to finance the construction of the hospital and that it will be turned over to us on schedule, Alfonso said, “(GGDC) is as committed as we are to develop a network of healthcare facilities that extends and broadens the brand of The Medical City at the national and international level.”
Alfonso also reported that, in his capacity as CEO of TMCC, he made thrice weekly visits to the site to keep abreast of the progress of construction.
“Presently, all our activities are geared towards preparing for the opening of TMCC – recruiting doctors, hospital staff, training and building relationships with the provinces that we will serve. We look forward to advancing our advocacy of patient partnership and equity in health and development in Central Luzon,” Alfonso said.
Early this month, it was reported in the media that the Kuwaiti investor in the Global Gateways Logistics City (GGLC) has pulled out its finances from the access of its developer, rendering hundreds jobless and current projects, including the Medical City, uncertain.
The KGL Group, a firm owned by a Kuwaiti family and operating at Clark as the GGDC withdrew its funds from a working capital account (WCA) from which Peregrine draws funds for its operations.
