CABANATUAN CITY – Gov. Aurelio Umali’s Unang Sigaw ng Pagbabado (USPP) won eight of the 10 seats for the provincial board and majority of towns and city mayors in the recent elections.
This is on top of his reelection victory over his closest rival, incumbent Vice Gov. Edward Thomas Joson. Umali garnered 517,852 as against Joson’s 315,641 votes.
Umali’s runningmate, Gay Padiernos, also won with 458,454 votes over Senior Board Member Rommel Padilla who got 341,199 votes.
Umali has been blaming the present Sangguniang Panlalawigan, with Joson as presiding officer, for allegedly refusing to funds the former’s projects and programs.
He said the board has been barring his projects.
Umali initially got only two board members as allies until two other local legislators from Joson camp joined his camp.
Of the Joson allies, only Eduardo Rey Joson, a son of incumbent 1st district Rep. Eduaardo Nonato Joson and re-electionist BM Ramonito Juatco, from 1st and 2nd districts respectively, have won the seats.
Umali said the huge difference between his votes and that of Joson confirms Novo Ecijanos long for change.
