TARLAC CITY – The Tarlac City government has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Tarlac State University-School of Law giving free legal services to the city’s indigent litigants.

Signed by Mayor Cristy Angeles and city administrator Atty. Joselito Castro for the LGU, and TSU-SOL dean Jose Dela Rama and vice president for academic affairs Dr. Agnes Macaraeg for the university, the MOA has been hailed as a “significant milestone in the legal education and community service not only in the city but in the whole province of Tarlac.”

Under the MOA, cases of indigent litigants will be handled by TSU-SOL students under the supervision of qualified lawyers in the province. This, pursuant to TSU-SOL’s commitment to greater access to justice of the marginalized sector even as it provides experiential learning opportunity to its students to gain essential skills and ethical values preparatory to become better lawyers once they pass the bar.

To the city government, the MOA is a template of how the academe and the LGU can work together towards “the cause of justice for the last, the lost, and the least” on one hand, and the empowerment of future legal professionals, on the other. Punto News Team/Tarlac CIO
