Trina

ODIOUS, INDEED, are the comparisons between the two certified candidates to the provincial board who are born and bred in the town of Mexico.

This immediately surfaced at Tuesday’s luncheon-forum of the Society of Pampanga Columnists at Nanuk’s, Fiesta Capampangan in Robinsons Starmills.

I don’t know if it was the humor-mongering Macky Pangan of Central Luzon Daily or the resuscitated editor to the resurrected Luzon Urban Beltway Banner, Ashley Manabat that noted the diametrical contradiction in public  perception of three-term Mexico topnotch Councilor Trina Tiglao Dizon and comebacking Board Member Johnny “JQ” Quiambao.

That, by merely looking at Trina’s abbreviated resumé at the back of a laminated cardboard bearing her image and her pride-of-place statement: “Pilipinu ku, Kapampangan ku, anak na ku ning Mexico at Tersera Distritu Pagmaragul ku”  and her advocacies for governance: “kayanakan, kababainan, kalikasan.”

What immediately caught the opinion-makers’ attention was Trina’s co-chairmanship of the Local Council for the Protection of Children and the Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention Network. There and then, all thoughts and words zoomed to JQ’s direction.

Was it Ashley or Albert Lacanlale of Central Luzon Newsweek  that regaled the guys with a political morsel he said he picked up at last Sunday’s filing of the certificates of candidacy of the Ron-ron Dungca-Pogi Caballa ticket in Bacolor – “JQ is running as partylist representative under the Partido Bantay Bata.”  The venerable Fred Roxas of Manila Bulletin  nearly choked on the crispy fried catfish he munched.

Mangwang anac – kid-catcher, dangerously close to pedophile – spicing the talk there.

JQ’s run-in with an impregnated minor from Bacolor a few months back still runs fresh in the media mind, and unarguably, in the third district electorate’s too. The scarlet letter “R” remains appended to JQ’s name in the public eye, no matter the affidavit of desistance the young mother-to-be (a mom already?) executed which got JQ off the legal hook.

But the advocacies of Trina, who is also chair of the sangguniang bayan committee on women and family, go beyond women-child issues. She’s into labor and employment too, making certain that all enterprises in her town, be they industrial or commercial like the SM supermall and Wilcon Builders Center, take in no less than 40 percent of their workers from Mexico; and through her initiatives and coordinative links with government agencies and private enterprises making sure too that the Mexicanos are well provided with the skills needed through regular job trainings and workshops.

It is not only in the governmental, hence, material, that Trina renders service to her constituency. But in the realm of the spiritual too.

Trina, a bachelorette, is active in the Singles for Christ community, a member of the parish commentators-lectors guild and the parish Renewal Experience, and a former president of the Parish Youth Ministry of the San Jose Malino parish.

Yes, the state of single-blessedness takes a new high in Trina Tiglao Dizon. And what high this could bring to the sangguniang panlalawigan.

No wonder the lifelong romanticist Ram Mercado of Sun-Star Pampanga  swooned he has found a new, fresher and lovelier, political Cinderella, a new inspirational muse, in Trina.

I have never seen Ram so enraptured since he found his long sought jewel that was the Prinsesa ng Kumintang  in Taiwan.

With Ram in this ecstatic joy, Trina is surely a-boarding at the Capitol.
