BALANGA CITY– A tricycle driver was not tempted to use the money left in his tricycle despite his wife suffering from an asthma attack Tuesday night but instead returned the next day P22,220 in cash to the rightful owner.

Danilo Carreon, 56, of Poblacion, Pilar, Bataan, handed on Wednesday the money and a passport to his passenger, overseas contract worker Rica Cruz, 23, of Pentor, Dinalupihan, Bataan, at the Public Safety Office in Balanga City. “Nakokonsensiya ako, hindi ako makatulog dahil gusto kong maisauli agad ang pera,” the tricycle
    driver said.

He said that his wife had severe asthma that night but it did not occur to him to use the money in his possession.

He does not own the tricycle that has the route in Balanga City but has been under boundary basis since 2000.

Cruz was so grateful to the tricycle driver.

She gave P1,000 to the tricycle driver. Cruz withdrew the money from a bank in Balanga City and rode the tricycle. She said that she will use the money to pay rent to a house in Manila.

Jose Balana, operations officer of the Balanga City Public Safety Office, congratulated the tricycle driver for the
good act. He said that he will recommend to the city government to grant some incentives to the driver during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony “so other drivers will do the same.”

City Marshall Rodolfo Villaruz and other marshalls assisted in the turn-over of the money and passport.
