MANILA — The Toll Regulatory Board has authorized NLEX to adjust its toll by ₱5 in the open system and ₱0.72 per kilometer in the closed system effective March 2, 2025.
The adjustments, which followed regulatory procedures and underwent thorough review, are the consolidated amount of the first tranche of the approved periodic adjustments of NLEX due in 2023 and the add-on toll for the completion of the ₱7.7-B new Candaba 3rd Viaduct in 2024. The increase due in 2023 was deferred and divided into two tranches to ease the impact on expressway users.
Motorists have been enjoying a safer and more comfortable journeys with the new Candaba 3rd Viaduct without paying for additional toll since it was partially opened in August 2024 and fully completed December of the same year. Serving as a vital link between Metro Manila, Central, and Northern Luzon, this new bridge is expected to address the growing traffic demand in the north, contributing to tourism, trade, and commerce across regions.
Under the new toll fee matrix, motorists traveling anywhere within the open system will pay an additional ₱5 for Class 1 vehicles (regular cars and SUVs), ₱13 for Class 2 vehicles (buses and small trucks), and ₱15 for Class 3 vehicles.
The open system runs from Metro Manila in the cities of Navotas, Valenzuela, and Caloocan to Marilao, Bulacan, while the closed system covers the portion between Bocaue, Bulacan, and Sta. Ines, Mabalacat City, Pampanga, as well as Subic-Tipo.
Those traveling the full length of NLEX between Metro Manila and Mabalacat City will pay an additional ₱57 for Class 1 vehicles, ₱142 for Class 2 vehicles, and ₱171 for Class 3 vehicles.
From 2021 to 2024, the tollway company has embarked on infrastructure projects and improvements in its road networks that enhanced the safety, mobility, and convenience of motorists. Notable achievements include the road raising of the San Simon area, expansion of the Meycauayan Northbound Exit and construction of the new F. Raymundo Northbound Exit in Brgy. Pandayan, Meycauayan, revitalization of the Balintawak Cloverleaf, improvements in roadway lighting and furniture, and the enhancement and safety repairs of bridges and overpasses as well as the old Candaba Viaduct. System enhancements and equipment upgrades were also completed to improve motorists’ experience at the toll plazas.
Two major projects, aimed at further decongesting the NLEX mainline, will also start construction this year.
The first two-kilometer section of the NLEX-C5 Northlink from the NLEX Mindanao toll plaza to Quirino Highway in Novaliches is set to begin construction this year. This new expressway section will be welcome news for NLEX commuters who currently face daily traffic gridlock in the congested portions of Mindanao Avenue.
Another major project is the NLEX San Fernando to SCTEX Spur in Mabalacat, Pampanga. Once completed, expressway road capacity will be expanded from the existing two lanes to three lanes in each direction for faster and more seamless travel. The project also includes the installation of roadway lighting from NLEX San Fernando all the way to Sta. Ines for added safety. Mexico interchange will also be reconfigured as a full diamond interchange to accommodate the increase in the volume of vehicles in the area. NLEX CorpCom
