ANGELES CITY – Commuters and motorists here have something to be happy about.
Traffic condition along Mac Arthur Highway is expected to improve after Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan ordered the closure of all open gaps of the steel railings in front of Angeles University Foundation (AUF).
“I have to order again the closure of the open iron grill in front of AUF because it’s causing monstrous traffic again and near fatal accident of students and people crossing the Mac Arthur Highway,” said Pamintuan in a text message to Punto Central Luzon.
The mayor urged pedestrians and students to use the overpass “or just walk for 50 to 80 meters from either side of the area.”
Pamintuan also said this city’s police director, Senior Supt. Rodolfo Recomono, and Philippine National Police (PNP) Traffic Head Mel Santos recommended railing’s closure.
Citing the case in Metro Manila, the mayor said “main thoroughfares have even concrete walls to prevent people from traversing dangerous roads – España, Taft Avenue, the whole span of EDSA, Buendia and Ayala.”
Traffic enforcers, police authorities and city officials earlier said that they have received numerous complaints from motorists due to the worsening traffic condition in the area especially during peak hours.
AUF Chancellor Emmanuel Angeles disclosed that the steel barriers were built since 2006 during the time of then mayor and now, Pampanga 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin.
