Trader, sibling nabbed, yield arms cache

    SAN ISIDRO, Nueva Ecija – A petroleum dealer and his brother yielded an arms cache with hundreds of bullets in a raid conducted by elements of the Nueva Ecija police intelligence branch (PIB) in Barangay Poblacion here Saturday.

    Senior Supt. Robero Aliggayu, Nueva Ecija police director, said the raid at the house of Ramil Vasquez, 43, and Buenaventura Paolo Vazquez, 33, was conducted on the strength of a warrant issued by the Gapan City Regional Trial Court Judge Branch 34 Celso Baguio,

    Ramil operates a gasoline station across their residence along Gapan-Olongapo road, Poblacion here.

    Aliggayu said that PIB operatives recovered from the two one cal. 30 garand rifle, one M16 rifle, two .9mm pistol, one 12-gauge shotgun and one cal. 22 rifle. Police also seized from them unlicensed airsoft guns that include six rifles and .9mm pistol.

    Supt. Ricardo Villanueva, PIB chief, said they were surprised with 200 live bullets for cal. 40 and cal. 45; 94 pieces for .9mm pistol, magazines of M16 rifle with 189 rounds of live bullets, 64 live bullets for cal. 30, a bayonet and several empty shells for various calibers.

    It turned out, however, that an M16 rifle was licensed to Ramil while one .9mm has expired license under Paolo’s name. “The rest had no corresponding documents,” Villanueva said.

    “The arrested persons and the seized evidences were brought to the provincial special reaction team office (in Cabanatuan City) for investigation and proper disposition,” he reported.

    Aliggayu said that the operation which was hatched based on intelligence information was in line with the Philippine National Police’s (PNP’s) campaign against loose firearms called Kontra-Boga II.

    The suspects are facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, he said.
