MALOLOS CITY – A municipal councilor of Bulakan town was tagged as suspect in the shooting of a cameraman here on Saturday night.
However, the evidence remained circumstantial as the police continue conduct investigation.
The suspect was identified as Jeff Tansinsin y Cruz, 29, municipal councilor of Bulakan town residing at Macapatan Street in Barangay Balubad, Bulakan.
Police said that the impounded blue Yamaha Sniper motorcycle found at the crime scene on Saturday night was traced to be registered under the name of Tansinsin.
They also said that police’s Fire and Explosive Division’s record showed that a caliber .45 was also registered under Tansinsin’s name.
On Saturday night, responding police officers found two empty shells of caliber .45 at the crime scene along with the motorcycle which was allegedly bumped off by Erwin Bunag, 35, a media worker based in Bulacan.
Bunag was injured when fired upon twice while he was trying to get off his motorbike to fix the blue Yamaha Sniped he just bumped off.
“Huminto ako para itayo yung nabuwal na motorbike, pero hindi pa ko nakakababa sa motor ay may pumutok na at naramdaman ko na lang mainit at dumudugo yung braso ko,” he said.
Wounded Bunag went back to Rommel Ramos’ house which is some 50 meters away.
Ramos is the stringer of GMA7 in Bulacan and Pampanga who has been at odds with local police when he covered and reported a raid by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents on video karera in Malolos City last June.
“Kinabahan na agad ako na baka si Bunag binaril dahil kaaalis lang dito sa amin,” said Ramos when interviewed noting that he heard the shots from his house.
As this developed, local journalists here expressed alarm on the shooting incident as it reminded them of the warning of the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) in 2007.
Back then, the NUJP national directorate warned fellow journalists on the possibilities of increased in hostility against journalist as elections nears.
“We have to take extra precaution because election is not an ordinary time,” said Rowena Paraan, a director of the NUJP.
