Tougher times

Last Sunday, in bold daylight, a group of robbers smashed the glass window of a car parked in front of KFC along O.G. Road (now Jose Abad Santos Ave.) in the City of San Fernando for the purpose of taking the things inside the car. The driver and occupants of the car were then eating inside KFC. I also heard similar stories, specifically those leaving their laptop computers inside their car, while they enjoy the malls in San Fernando and Angeles.

A week ago, a tourist in Angeles City had an altercation with a vendor along Fields Avenue, and suffered several stab wounds; then there was this Malaysian tourist who was robbed and shot dead after he visited a money-exchange shop along the Fields. They were just among the increasing numbers of tourists who fell victim to rampant criminal acts in the “City of Friendship”.

Then lately, a 15-year old girl, out of poverty, was impregnated by a provincial Board Member in Pampanga. She later on thanked the local councilor who introduced her to the Board Member. OMG!

The number of street children and beggars roaming the vicinity of SM Clark and San Fernando as well as the different commercial establishments in these two cities is rapidly increasing. They are not as prominent two years ago.

The Porac and Angeles City advocates against foul smell and its hazardous effects to the environment and the people are getting no reprieve from the local and national officials. Instead of getting full support, they get threats and harassment.

The number of married Filipinas seeking annulment of marriage is also increasing. Worse, the reason is mainly due to a pending proposal of marriage by a foreigner. And worst, their husbands are supportive, thinking that it would redound also to their benefits and their children. Give me some water!

Too many investigations, too many acts of corruption exposed. But no one has been charged in court. Jocjoc Bolante is said to be eyeing a seat as governor of Capiz. This man, perhaps, has the blood of a manananggal. Manananggal ng kahihiyan at delicadeza. And where would that leave the Office of the Ombudsman – the Mighty Protector of Evil Forces?

The once ordinary garbage site in Masantol, Pampanga has grown into a fully operational dumpsite even of nearby Macabebe. Dumpsite surrounded by river and fishponds. No one is taking action. Can the DENR look into this or at least a concerned NGO? I volunteer my services.

And the list would never end….
