The sleepy town of Magalang, Pampanga was hit by a freak weather condition on Monday.
A tornado struck Barangay San Nicolas at 12:59pm sending gutters, roofings and other debris from houses, schools, covered courts and other establishments into the air as the funnel from the clouds reached the ground.
The windstorm caused temporary power interruptions until 3:45 in the afternoon. No casualties, however, have been reported.
A tornado is a rapidly rotating column of air that is in contact with both the surface of the earth and a cumulonimbus cloud or, in rare cases, the base of a cumulus cloud. The w eather phenomenon is often referred to as a twister, whirlwind or cyclone.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued thunderstorm alerts that included Pampanga on Monday. It warned of moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds.
