CLARK FREEPORT – In a bid to make more efficient and transparent the business and public sector’s transactions with local governments nationwide, the Cyber City Teleservices is launching the first eGov Awards of the Philippines.

Cyber City president George Sorio said the project, in partnership with the Department of Interior and Local Government and the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines, is open to all provincial, city and municipal government units.

“It’s a way of encouraging local governments to take full advantage of the benefits of the advances in information and communications technology to make transactions with them faster and more transparent, especially for the business sector so that the country would be able to attract more investors,” Sorio said in a press conference here.

He explained that there would be no established parameters for the awards which would be based on the “ICT initiatives of local government units in two categories, namely, best in eGov customer empowerment or G2C and best in eGov business empowerment or G2B.”

Sorio said the G2C award would recognize the “measurable effect of an LGU’s outstanding practices in applying ICT solutions in the education and engagement of the public in the use of electronic facilities or channels towards providing improved, timely and relevant delivery of public services.”

On the other hand, the G2B award would measure the LGU’s “responsiveness to the needs of business enterprises, thereby creating business opportunities,” he also explained.

Sorio, who is also an officer of the NICP, said the eGov Awards would also “commend, collate, and document the best practices of LGU’s in integrating ICT in their processes to serve as models for other LGU’s.”

“This will improve the business ecosystem of LGU’s and motivate the private and business sectors to actively support the LGU’s advancement to become more ICT-enabled,” he added.

Cyber City is reputed to be the leading business process outsourcing and call center firm in this freeport.

He said that nominations could be done online via www.egov.com.ph, adding that there would be three winners in each of the two awards categories.
