CLARK FREEPORT — Texas Instruments (TI), one of the world’s biggest semiconductor firm, is boosting its operations here with a $10-million expansion.
This was announced by Mohammad Yunus, president and managing director of TI Philippines, during the groundbreaking ceremonies for the expansion of its product distribution center in this freeport.
Yunus said the “groundbreaking of the new facility is a celebration of a result of what government agencies and industry when partnering together can achieve not only for the success of corporate enterprise but also for the success of the country.”
Yunus recalled that when TI was established here, the goal was to ship 1.5 billion semiconductor units every quarter.
“Our current product distribution center is overflowing, we do not have enough space to do an efficient job on distributing,” Yunus said.
“It (product distribution center) is designed to be a state of the art storage retrieval system with high levels of automation and it is designed to be the highest best workplace ergonomics,” he added.
Yunus disclosed that last quarter, TI shipped 1.5 billion semiconductor units. This quarter, TI here in Clark will ship about 1.9 billion semiconductor units.
“We are currently looking on the 2 billion units which could be a new record for any Texas Instrument sites anywhere in the world,” Yunus said.
TI has an investment of $1 billion for its manufacturing facilities in Clark.
During the groundbreaking ceremonies, Philippine Economic Zone Authority Director General Lilia De Lima cited Clark Development Corporation (CDC) President Arthur Tugade “for making this Freeport as one of the country’s strong investment and promotions destinations.”
De Lima said Tugade “is a staunch supporter of investment and promotions and exemplifies facilitator of development.”
“I’ve been in this job for more than 20 years as PEZA director general and I’ve seen presidents of CDC come and go, but the current one is the best,” she said.
