MARIVELES, Bataan: The Regional Training Center Central Luzon (RTCCL) of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority here announced Tuesday that 15 persons deprived of liberty have undertaken different trainings.

Sierra E. Flores, TESDA – Mariveles administrative officer V/extension program coordinator, said the PDLs from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Mariveles were trained in beads craft making, chair/dry massage, and hand and foot reflexology.

TESDA and BJMP training facilitators.

The PDLs learned how to make different bead works such as ID lace, keychains, Christmas decor and other crafts and also on the application of pressure to areas on the feet and the hands through massage and reflexology.

Flores said the activity was in partnership between TESDA RTCCL–Mariveles headed by center administrator Neil Santioque, BJMP–Mariveles led by Jail Insp. Jonathan Fuentes and community training and employment coordinator Rowena Franco.

The hand and foot reflexology, and chair/dry massage are both two hours of training while the beads craft making takes 10 days. Some BJMP personnel joined the training.

Fuentes said that aside from the good behavior shown by the PDLs, the skills training from TESDA and other participation in the reformation program, allow for a reduction of sentences of PDLs.

This depends, he said, on how well they abide by rules and regulations inside any penal institution, rehabilitation, or detention center or any other local jail under RA10592 or the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law.

Franco said that they coordinated with different agencies and organization for the selling of craft beads so that PDLs will have a source of income though they are still under detention.

Flores encouraged the PDLs to grab all opportunities to learn and gain more knowledge and skills so that they will be prepared on the time of their release from imprisonment and ready to face the outside world with confidence.

JO3 Anabellia A. Quiliope, welfare and development officer of BJMP-Mariveles, said that the conduct of these trainings will greatly help the PDLs reduce their impatience and anxiety and develop their knowledge and skills while they are still inside prison.
