DINALUPIHAN, Bataan – Defense Sec. Gilberto Teodoro on Monday has asked Metropolitan Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando to be respectful of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD while announcing high regards for his cousin Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino.
“Ang taong nagsasabi na siya na ang standard bearer samantalang wala pa namang desisyon ang nakakarami ay disrespectful sa partido na ang dapat ay magtulong-tulong upang patatagin at palakasin at huwag sirain ito,” the secretary said referring to Fernando’s statements that he should be the one to be anointed by the administration party.
“Hindi ko mapipigilan ang taong gustong madagdagan ang kalaban niya na sa halip mang-akit, nang-aaway pa,” Teodoro said when asked to comment on remarks of Fernando that the administration party seems to favor him.
He said that he is new to the Lakas-Kampi-CMD but he will not do anything to destroy it. “Mahirap magpataasan ang kulelat, basta kung sino gusto ng nakakarami at makapagbibigay ng benepisyo sa bansa at sa partido, iyon ang dapat piliin at hindi iyong sapilitan,” the chief of the Department of National Defense said.
The administration party is considering Teodoro, Fernando and Vice-Pres. Noli de Castro as its standard bearer for the highest post in the land on the May 2010 polls.
On Noynoy Aquino, Teodoro said that the young Aquino is not only a cousin but a friend. “If I will be chosen as the standard bearer of the administration party, I see no reason why Noynoy and I will quarrel,” he said.
He admitted that Aquino has a high rating. “Pero kami man sa Lakas-Kampi-CMD kung sino ang mapipili, natural na palalakasin at magtatrabaho kami ng husto upang gumanda ang aming rating,” the secretary said.
Gov. Enrique Garcia said that 50 provincial governors in the recent meeting have endorsed Teodoro as the administration party’s standard bearer.
“A year ago, the League of Governors in a meeting in Cebu had already chosen the Defense secretary as our candidate for President in 2010,” said Garcia, the Lakas-CMD chair in Bataan.
Teodoro was in Dinalupihan and inspected the breached portion of the Daan-Bago dike. With Dinalupihan Mayor Joel Payumo and Garcia, the secretary distributed packs of rice and canned goods to workers sandbagging the dike under the food for work program.
He also handed relief goods to residents in Barangay J.Payumo also in Dinalupihan.
Payumo said more than 8,000 families in 27 out of 46 barangays in Dinalupihan were affected by floods. He placed the damage to agriculture at P6.6 million.
Teodoro said that in a week time, he will act on the recommendations and request of the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council on what projects to immediately undertake in Bataan to stop flooding that he considered as the biggest in two towns.
The governor blamed global warming, the unimplemented and allegedly deleted P2-billion flood control and drainage program at a portion of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and denuded forests for the flooding in Hermosa and Dinalupihan towns.
