BALANGA City – A 9-year-old boy on Thursday complained of being hit by a math book thrown at him by his teacher after he laughed out loud while falling in line with his classmates.

“Nakalinya kami para magpa- check ng workbook sa aming teacher. Nagpatawa kaklase ko at napatawa ako ng malakas. Nakita ni teacher at binato ako ng libro,” the Grade 3 pupil said. He showed a welt on his right leg that the boy said was hit by a math book. A medico-legal report showed that he suffered a contusion hematoma at the right leg.

Zenaida Soriano, a local publisher, said her grandchild told her about the incident. She said she felt bad but controlled her emotion not to confront the teacher and prepared a letter-complaint. Soriano, guardian of the child, said she was contemplating of filing both administrative and criminal charges against Lomer Gonzales, Grade 3 teacher of the St. Joseph College, a religious school in Balanga City.

The school is a branch of the St. Joseph College of Quezon City run by nuns. “Hyperactive ang apo ko pero hindi dapat saktan at batuhin ng libro,” Soriano said. She filed a letter-complaint with City Schools Superintendent Ronaldo Pozon and the Office of Bishop Ruperto Santos of the Diocese of Balanga.

Sister Minda Posadas, principal and directress of the private school, said she would wait for the parent or guardian of the child to hand her a copy of the complaint.

She refused to answer any question.
