ANGELES CITY – The Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC) on Friday turned over three classrooms at the Lourdes Northwest Elementary School here in support of the “Kabahagi Ako sa Handog Silid Aralan Tugon sa Kaunlaran” project initiated by 1st  District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin.

MNTC President Rodrigo Franco led the inauguration of the one storey-three classroom building as part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility. The  donation is worth at least P520,000.

“We have supported medical missions and outreach programs. But this is the first time we funded the construction of public school classrooms,” said Franco.

He stressed that “we know the value of education and that’s why we supported the project.”

Lazatin, in his speech, expressed gratitude to the MNTC.

He disclosed that at least 67 classrooms in public schools in this city, Magalang and Mabalacat had been constructed under his ‘Kabahagi Ako’ project.

City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan hailed Lazatin for his “singular effort to provide infrastructure most conducive to a learning environment.”

Last year, Lazatin launched his project to fund the construction and major repair of least 444 classrooms in his district.  He tapped local government units and private firms to raise over P300 milllion.

Congressional chief of staff IC Calaguas disclosed that they had received pledges and commitments worth at least P288 million.

Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda vowed to give P25 million for the construction of classrooms in Magalang and Mabalacat.

Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting and Alex Cauguiran, the city mayor’s chief of staff, also attended the turn-over rites.
