ANGELES CITY – Lawyer-educator Emmanuel Y. Angeles has supported the project to create 444 public school classrooms in the 1st District, earning praises from the veteran congressman.

IC Calaguas, congressional chief of staff, on Wednesday said Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin thanked Angeles for vowing to shoulder the construction of comfort rooms in public schools here, Mabalacat and Magalang.

“The support of Atty. Manny Angeles is meaningful because it came from the private sector handling one of the top universities in Luzon,” said Calaguas, referring to Angeles as Chancellor of the Angeles University Foundation. The school is now run by his children.

“A private school supporting a public school is the height of real gratitude,” added Calaguas.

She said Angeles had told them he will pay for the construction of “a significant number” of comfort rooms.
But Calaguas stressed that Lazatin thanked “whatever contributions they all had given.”

“Mere prayers are most welcome. Mere attendance of anyone in our meetings is very much appreciated,” she added.

Lazatin’s project dubbed “Kabahagi Ako sa Handog Silid Aralan Tugon sa Kaunlaran” is now only 89 classrooms short. Every classroom should house at least 30 students – the ideal number to make the room conducive for learning based on the standards set by Education Secretary Armin Luistro.

Calaguas disclosed that the implementation of the project will be on September beginning with the funds from Gov. Lilia Pineda and Lazatin.

Pineda vowed to allot at least 25 million for the project.

Calaguas said the second salvo will be on December using some of the pledges from private firms, including locators at the Clark Freeport. “Full blast of the project is on April next year.”
