ANGELES CITY – “I could not imagine that two small rooms for the taxpayers’ lounge could cost P10 million.”

Thus 1st District Rep. Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin appraised the taxpayers’ lounge at the city hall put up by Mayor Francis “Blueboy” Nepomuceno.

“The decorative lights and beautification of the islands and rotunda (along MacArthur Highway in Barangay Sto. Domingo) are likewise overpriced. Worse, they pose extreme danger to motorists,” the former three-term mayor continued.

Dangerous too, said Lazatin, was Nepomuceno’s “refurbishing project” at the Pampanga Public Market with the new floor tiles “putting people’s lives in danger as they could easily slip.”

“I challenge you to name one good project of Nepomuceno for the past two years. Zero,” punctuated Lazatin.

Carping, said Nepomuceno’s city administrator of the congressman.

Mark Allen Sison said Nepomuceno had been able to achieve 70 percent of his total target projects for the city.

“Lazatin as mayor for nine years straight was not able to produce even one street lamp much less rotundas,” said Sison.” Worse, what passes off for rotundasin his term were slabs of concrete or thin strips of steel merely borrowed from some other agencies.”

Sison disclosed that the three projects scored by Lazatin “are part of the modernization program of the mayor.” He added that the mayor and his people have done their part in ensuring the delivery of basic services to the people.

Sison, who took over his post after Bong Alvaro resigned last December, said Nepomuceno would make a “milestone” as they announced the construction of a P500 million sports facility project by March.

“Lazatin and many others have failed to construct a sports facility despite the fact that our players are consistently topping regional athletic  meets,” he said. “Our athletes will soar higher if they have their own modern sports facility.”

Sison said they are looking into the property of either the Tans in Pulung Maragul or the Jaos in Pandan for the sports facility.

“But we are now considering the property of Ompong Jao because he will donate about five hectares of his land for the project,” he said.
