TARLAC CITY (PIA) — Tarlac State University (TSU) has collaborated with the Kakamay Movement Organization to strengthen its vision of becoming a deaf-ready institution by promoting Filipino Sign Language (FSL) education and enhancing campus support mechanisms for deaf students.
Under the partnership, the Kakamay Movement Organization will provide free FSL training, workshops, and awareness programs for volunteer faculty, staff, and students of the university.
TSU Vice President for Academic Affairs Jasper Jay Mendoza emphasized that the initiative is anchored in TSU’s plan to develop micro-credentialing and capacity-building programs for FSL-inclusive education and deaf support.

“This partnership reflects our shared vision for inclusivity, innovation, and social responsibility — a synergy that will open doors for students and stakeholders to learn, lead, and make a difference,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kakamay Movement Organization Founder General Gabinera Palma highlighted that the partnership aimed to promote inclusivity by turning the university into a deaf-inclusive space.
“Through this partnership, we can work on connecting the seven spheres of society with the programs we can develop within the academe — transforming classrooms into deaf-inclusive spaces, ensuring the sustainability of programs from education to employment, and uniting institutions in support of deaf students” he said.
Other than free FSL training and workshops, the partnership also targets to prepare the university for the potential offering of deaf education programs. (CLJD/AJRR, PIA Region 3-Tarlac)
