Tarlac receives Gawad Kalasag ‘22

TARLAC CITY – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recognized the provincial government of Tarlac headed by Gov. Susan Yap as one of the recipients of Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence during the 22nd National Awarding Ceremony.

Yap, together with PDRRMO chief Marvin Guiang, PDRRMO officer Maureen Bacolod, and Office of the Civil Defense Region III director Cesar Idio received the seal of excellence during the ceremony.

Tarlac is among the provinces in the country that garnered a fully compliant rating for the Gawad Kalasag Seal for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Office category for 2022.

Fully compliant local government units are those that generally adhere to the standards for the establishment and functionality of the LDRRMOs.

Yap expressed gratitude and recognition for the dedicated teamwork and determined effort the provincial government through the PDRRMC demonstrated which made the province’s disaster response successful and effective.

The Gawad Kalasag Search for Excellence in Disaster Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance serves as a recognition and award scheme of the country for various stakeholders who promote and implement disaster risk reduction and management, climate change adaptation, and humanitarian assistance programs that protect and shield high-risk communities against extreme hazards and render them more capable of addressing their vulnerabilities.

Aside from Tarlac province, the municipalities of Concepcion and Pura and the City of Tarlac also garnered the same rating and were likewise awarded the seal. 

The Gawad Kalasag Seal is a testament of Tarlac province’ commitment towards achieving mission of a safe, adaptive, and disaster-resilient province thru the implementation of various programs, projects, and activities intended to continuously enhance its capabilities to prepare for hazards and respond to disasters effectively while ensuring the participation of various public and private stakeholders and the empowerment of communities and citizens. –Arvin F.
