TARLAC CITY — Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) trained Project Municipal Innovation through Science and Technology (MIST) coordinators in Tarlac on news writing and crafting good stories.
This aims to capacitate the coordinators to write effective stories for dissemination in various media platforms for transparency of government projects.
DOST Provincial Director Karen Dañez said that with the workshop, MIST coordinators may be agents of spreading factual and good stories.
“Nowadays, misinformation and disinformation is rampant in the digital media. We hope that through this we can communicate true information and stories of our programs in our respective municipalities and city,” she added.
For his part, PIA Assistant Regional Director Carlo Lorenzo Datu said it is high time DOST will be recognized not only for its scholarship programs but also for science-based solutions they contribute to the society.
“Before, we only know DOST as agency providing scholarship grants, now we are informed that they have many programs to offer and we aim to spread this information to the grassroots,” he furthered.
Meanwhile, Tarlac Information Center Manager Trixie Joy Manalili emphasized in her lecture the importance of information in saving lives and leading community development.
“Let us not let our achievements sit on our accomplishment reports alone. Let us let the public know of our programs and how they can benefit from it through news writing,” she underscored.
Project MIST seeks to forward DOST programs closer to communities in the province.
It is being implemented in partnership with the provincial government of Tarlac, municipal governments, Tarlac State University, and PIA. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
