PORAC, Pampanga – Councilor Mike Tapang has asked top municipal officials to stick with the issues and ensure the protection of the people by using public funds properly for the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) extension here.

Tapang said the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Porac Mayor Condralito De La Cruz and the DHVTSU “was one-sided” in favor of the school.

He stressed that the use of public funds for the DHVTSU should be “carefully studied and must go to the same process as required by law.”

“Imagine we will shelve out P3 million yearly for 25 years without the assurance that most of those who will benefit are from Porac,” said Tapang, citing the provision of the MOA. He lamented the lack of public consultation before the MOA was approved by the council.

Tapang said “if they had addressed my concerns, why not put it on the MOA to make it official.”

“Let’s us not just say it that’s on the minutes of the meeting. What’s important is that it’s on the MOA,” he added.

    I AM ALONE

Tapang vehemently denied the claims of De La Cruz and Vice Mayor Dexter David that he was the proponent of the P250 million public market and mall.

The councilor said he is “alone” in the council “and how can I work for the huge loan?”

He said he had a communication letter from the proponents of the project showing they are “directly communicating with the mayor and not me.”

Tapang also denied that he made a proposed ordinance allowing the mayor to seek a multi-million loan for the project.

“Let’s stick to the issue and not bring up other issues,” he said.

Tapang asked De la Cruz and David “for a public debate to see who’s telling the truth.”
