BAGAC, Bataan – News on the arrest of Lacson on All Saints Day or Undas spread like wildfire in barangay Binukawan and near-by villages here, a source from the village revealed Friday.
But the source, a former respected municipal official, clarified smiling that the Lacson referred to was not Senator Panfilo “Ping”Lacson but retired Philippine Constabulary Sgt. Reynaldo Oximoso alias Rene, 60.
She said that Oximoso was known as “Lacson” in the village where his father served once as barangay captain. Binukawan residents are mostly settlers from Cavite like the big Oximoso clan.
“Sa mga kuwentuhan, Lacson ang tawag nila kay Rene kaya nang mahuli siya, ang usap-usapan ng mga tao, nahuli si Lacson,” said the source who was among the first settlers with the Oximoso elders in Binukawan.
The former PC sergeant is the second to the eldest among nine children. A younger sister is still in the active service as pilot of the Philippine Air Force. A younger brother has retired from the Philippine Marines.
Oximoso, a former driver-aide of Senator Lacson from 1983 – 2004, was arrested in Binukawan at about 11:30 a.m. last November 1. He was among six members of the defunct Capcom charged for the murder of five agents of the then PC Criminal Investigation Service sometime in 1983.
The source described Oximoso as kind but authoritative. “Mabait siya pero straight to the point at kapag sinabi halimbawa sa kabataan kung gabi na umuwi na, tiyak uuwi na mga bata,” she said.
According to the former lady official, Oximoso seldom came to the village while still with the PC and later with the Philippine National Police.
“Nang mag-retire, medyo pabalik-balik na siya dahil may sariling bahay na siyang naipatayo at nagpapatanim siya ng kamote,” the source said.
After the arrest of Oximoso, the local police have beefed up its intelligence monitoring on the many sandy beaches of Bagac on reports that the real Lacson is in the country.
Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, said they are not discounting the possibility that the senator may choose to visit Bataan.
Former congressman Romeo Jalosjos was arrested in one of the islands near Bagac while then poll Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano was reported sighted in the Bagac-Morong area.
Chief Insp. George Santiago, Bagac police chief, said in coordination with other police agencies, they are closely monitoring different beaches the town is famous for. “Patuloy ang monitoring namin sa maraming beaches at magagandang bakasyunan dito at baka sakaling may maligaw,” the police chief said.
