ZINC IS one of the most important components in the mineral kingdom and highly recommended by healthcare providers, as an immunity booster, to combat and guard oneself from all kinds of viruses (like the present Covid-19), best taken together with vitamin C, D, E, magnesium, and B-complex.
Zinc is an essential mineral that is present in adrenal glands, brain, lungs, heart, eyes, skin, while the highest concentration can be found in the prostate glands.
Just like magnesium, there are 100 enzymes which depend on zinc to catalyze different biochemical reactions essential to the proper workings of the immune, nervous, and reproductive systems.
What does it do?
In order for the liver to release vitamin A, zinc is required. The same goes for the metabolism of carbohydrates, protein, and fats, and to the synthesis of DNA and RNA.
Zinc is needed for the structure of all cell membranes in the body, in the development of children to reach optimal growth, for fast surgical recovery and healing of wounds in a shorter period of time.
Zinc plays a big role in the sense of smell, taste, and vision, a perfect aid for ACE (angiotensin converging enzyme) inhibitor.
Zinc can be used therapeutically for awide variety of conditions
Acne, alopecia, Alzheimer’s disease, cataracts, colitis, diabetes, dermatitis, eczema, gastrointestinal issues, high triglycerides problems, obesity, rheumatism, arthritis, respiratory infections, colds, pregnancy concerns, and most of all in prostate diseases, like cancer.
Zinc can be acquired through foods.
For non-vegetarians, oysters, crabs, and clams are your best sources for zinc while the vegetarians’ best betsare shiitake mushrooms, cabbage, squash, kale, sesame and watermelon seeds, green peas, spinach, asparagus, and plain yogurt.
How much do you need?
For preventive purposes, 11 – 24 mg per day and 80 mg per day, for a specific disorder therapy.
There are other minerals like calcium and a high dosage of iron that can interfere in the absorption of zinc. You can also lose zinc from heavy sweating, unhealthy weight loss, stress, and alcohol use.
Remember that we all have different body structures, lifestyle, environment, health history and goals, hence everyone doesn’t need the same array of health supplements.
One of my personal choices in life is to avoid taking pills or capsules by nourishing my body naturallythrough following a healthy diet regimen, regular exercise, taking the time to rest, and silence my mind through meditation, nurture my spirit through Yoga, prayers, and good deeds, commune and be in harmony with Mother Nature – the provider of all that we need.
OM Shanti.
