ANGELES CITY – This city is least corrupt, while Metro Manila cities are the most.
This city’s Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan expressed yesterday elation over a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey naming this city as least corrupt among seven highly urbanized cities, including Metro Manila, in the country.
The 2012 SWS survey of “enterprises on corruption” included as respondents 100 big and small enterprises in each of the survey areas.
Of some 100 big and medium business sector respondents in this city, only 27 said they were aware of local corruption.
“The figure is the lowest among the areas surveyed. Metro Manila registered the highest at 51 affirmative answers,” noted city information officer Deo Sambilay.
The survey showed Angeles being perceived as least corrupt, followed by the cities of Cebu, Los Banos, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Iloilo, and the National Capital Region.
On the question on what government level corruption occurs, the same survey said 81 respondents cited the national government, 76 cited the city or municipal government, 72 cited the provincial government, and 52 cited the barangay administration.
Of those who cited the city government, Angeles also ranked as the lowest among the seven urbanized cities covered by the survey, with the NCR and Iloilo getting top ranking.
“The results of the SWS survey only validate the many awards Angeles City has been receiving in the area of transparency and good governance. This is something that every Angeleno should be proud of,” Pamintuan said.
He noted that “the SWS is a very credible survey organization whose findings belie the allegations of my political opponents.”
“The results of the survey, where Angeles registered the best record, should now put to rest the baseless accusations that the business sector is complaining against my administration,” he stressed.
The 2012 survey included Angeles City for the first time since SWS started it in 2000.
