BALANGA CITY – Police are gaining headway in their anti-prostitution campaign in Bataan with the arrest here on Tuesday afternoon of a suspected pimp and the rescue of eight trafficked women.
Also at dawn of the same day, a suspected sex worker was nabbed at a transient house in Barangay Ibayo.
Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and city police conducted the operation after receiving reports on the alleged proliferation of prostitution in this component city.
Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, identified the suspected pimp as Romel Santiago alias Medang of Barangay Malabia, this city. He faces a case for violation of Republic Act 9208 or the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.
The suspect refused to comment on the complaint against him.
The trafficked women claimed they were made to believe that they would merely attend a jamming session only to learn that they were to work as prostitutes. They were turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Suspected sex worker Aprilyn San Juan, 20, was arrested while about to engage in sexual intercourse with a police officer who posed as a customer in exchange for P500.
