ABUCAY, Bataan – Joint operatives of various police and military units in Bataan on Thursday arrested a suspected high-ranking officer of the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army in barangay Salian, Abucay, Bataan.
Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, said Johnny Caragay alias Danilo Caragay alias Joker, 45, of Salian was apprehended based on a warrant of arrest issued for alleged frustrated homicide.
Suspect was allegedly listed under the police Order of Battle as No. 36 of CPP/NPA operating in the Bataan-Pampanga area as Iskwad Lider of Teresera.
Gunnacao said that investigations revealed that suspect was among the local communist terrorists responsible to the burning of a passenger bus of the Bataan Transit Corporation at 8:30 p.m. of November 10, 2005 along Sityo Pinagpatayan in barangay Calaylayan, here.
Police said that Caragay has also a pending murder case for the allegedly killing of Sgt. Marcial Francisco of the 24th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in Camacho, Balanga City.
Suspect admitted he was with five other persons who burned a passenger bus. “Naatasan lang” was his short reply on why they burned the bus.
He also admitted to being a member of the CPP/NPA as Iskwad Lider of Tres from 2005 to 2008. He claimed, however, that he has returned to the folds of the law in 2008.
“Kasapi ako ng CPP/NPA simula 2005 ngunit nagbalik-loob ako sa gobyerno noong 2008 at masaya ako dahil nakapiling ko na ang pamilya ko may isang taon na,” Caragay said.
Intelligence Officer SPO2 Danilo Nazareno said Chief Insp. Allan Macapagal, provincial intelligence branch chief, led units that participated in the arrest of Caragay. Joint operatives came from the Provincial Intelligence Branch, the Regional Intelligence Office3, Police Investigation and Detection Management Branch, Abucay municipal police station and the 7th Military Intelligence Bureau.
