BALANGA CITY, Bataan – Joint personnel of the Balanga City Police and the Highway Patrol Group arrested a suspected carnapper and recovered a stolen Toyota Innova car at the La Katrina Subdivision here Sunday morning.
Police said the white Toyota Innova 2007 has a fake plate No. ZGU-344. It was carnapped in Olongapo City a week ago.
Supt. Arnel Amor Libed, Balanga police chief, said suspect Philip Borja, 34, a merchandiser in Barangay D. Fajardo, Las Pinas City, was collared at La Katrina at about 7:30 a.m. after relatives of car owner Ruben Banez of Kalaklan, Olongapo City informed them that their missing Innova was in Balanga City.
Senior Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, Bataan police director, lauded the Balanga City police and the Highway Patrol Group for “job well-done”.
Suspect said he is engaged in Kapis lamination and vehemently denied the allegations.
He said he merely accompanied a certain Mac-Mac who drove the car from Paranaque to a buyer in Balanga City.
Borja also denied working for a certain “Art”, an alleged casino financier, whom Mac-Mac pointed to as the owner of the Innova who told him to sell the car. Mac-Mac for unknown reasons was able to leave Balanga City.
Marilou Valeriano, car dealer of La Katrina Subdivision in Balanga, said Mac-Mac offered to her the Innova so she told him to bring the car in Balanga. She said it was offered for P300,000. However, she told the suspect that she would buy the Innova only when cleared by the Land Transportation Office and the Highway Patrol Group.
The owner of the Innova said they were able to trace their Innova because it was equipped with a tracking device called GPS (Global Positioning System).
