GAPAN CITY – A suspected peddler of illegal drugs was killed after allegedly initiating a firefight in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Pambuan here at past 6 p.m. on Monday.
Acting city police chief Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito identified the suspect as Manny Ramos, a resident of the said place.
In her report to Nueva Ecija police director Col. Jaime Santos, Desamito said operatives from the station drug enforcement unit conducted the buy bust, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency upon confirming the suspect’s illicit activity.
An undercover lawman was able to purchase a sachet of suspected shabu from Ramos using a marked P1,000 bill, according to Desamito.
The suspect, however, reportedly fired a .38 revolver when operatives led by Lt. Francis Capili tried to arrest him, prompting the operatives to retaliate.
Ramos died on the spot.
Aside from the gun, 21 sachets of shabu were recovered from the suspect, police said.
