MALOLOS CITY—Simmering summer heat reaching 36 degrees Celsius yesterday afternoon here forced many Bulakenyos to stay home.

The Bulacan provincial health office said no incidents related to high temperature were reported to their office, while the Provincial Disaster Management Office’s (PDMO) rescue teams were on stand-by for possible emergencies 24-hours a day.

Based on data obtained from the PDMO, yesterday’s 36 degrees Celsius’ temperature was the third hottest recorded in the province since Good Friday.

Records showed that at 1p.m. on Good Friday, temperature within this city rose to 38.4 degrees Celsius, while on Black Saturday, it dropped to 37 degrees.

Raul Agustin, a PMDO special operations officer, said they are constantly monitoring temperature within this capital city of Bulacan through a portable automatic weather console installed in their office.

“It serves as our barometer for local temperature,” Agustin said.

Liz Mungcal, the PDMO head, on the other hand said that the portable automatic weather console is helpful to them.

She said that while they have not received reports on heat related incidents in the province, their emergency response and rescue teams are on stand-by 24-hours a day.

“Our teams are equipped and skilled in responding to any situation,” she said.

For her part, Dr. Joycelyn Gomez, the provincial health officer, said they have not received any heat-related medical incident.

But she advised Bulakenyos to take necessary precaution when the temperature is high.

“It is better they stay home or have a bottle of water on their side when traveling,” she said.

Gomez stressed that high temperature can easily exhaust energies as humans perspire. She also advised those who go under the sun to apply sunblock.

Since Friday, at least two persons were rushed to local hospitals due to high temperature.

Romeo Ramos of Malolos City suffered a mild stroke on Good Friday and was rushed to a local hospital, while Jacqueline Panganiban of Hagonoy town suffered shortness of breath, a sign of heat stroke.
