SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — For thousands of Marian devotees, all roads will lead to this freeport on February 11, for the “Subic Marian Peace Regatta and Healing Prayer Rally.”
The Marian event will be held in observance of the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes and International Healing Day, which are both celebrated on February 11.
The Marian peace regatta, usually held here in October in the past few years, was moved to February after President Benigno Aquino III reaffirmed the month as Pro-Life Month.
February was declared Pro-Life Month in 1987 by then President Corazon Aquino when she issued Proclamation 214, declaring February as “Respect and Care for Life Month.”
Organizers said the Subic Marian peace regatta is one of the major activities to be held this month in different parts of the country as part of Pro-Life Month espoused by the Catholic Church.
The event is jointly organized by Couples for Christ, Mary’s Army to Save Souls Media Movement, Pro-Life Philippines, El Shaddai, Luminous Cross of Grace, Alabang Cenacle Group, the Council of the Laity, and the SBMA Tourism Department.
Now on its third year, the Subic Marian Peace Regatta is a one-of-a-kind fluvial parade that features various decorated yachts, sailboats and fishing boats carrying images of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The February 11 fluvial parade will start at 2:00 p.m., with the blessing of the bay of Subic and participating boats following thereafter.
For the rest of the afternoon, there will be a prayer conference at Subic’s Boardwalk area. This will feature inspirational talks, and praise and worship songs to be sung by, among others, the Jamaican Singers of the Missionaries of the Poor.
At 6:30 p.m., a holy mass shall be celebrated by Rev. Paciano Aniceto, the archbishop of San Fernando, Pampanga. This will be followed by a prayer healing and benediction at 8:00 p.m.
Other related activities include a fireworks display starting at 8:30 p.m., and a pre-Valentine celebration featuring band performances, dinner, dance and food stalls which will be open until 12 midnight.
