STA. RITA, Pampanga – Police officers here led by the town cop chief were feted for recently solving several crimes and neutralizing suspects, including the arrest of two ‘Akyat-bahay’ members.
Mayor Yolanda Pineda on Monday gave certificates of recognition to police chief Senior Insp. Michael Masangkay and his fellow officers in simple ceremonies after the flag raising rites.
The two-term mayor was accompanied by barangay officials in awarding the police force.
Pineda lauded the cops’ accomplishments particularly the recent arrest of Akyat-Bahay members and a suspected drug pusher; arrest of a man wanted for frustrated murder; and the police’s joint operation with Porac policemen that led to the killing of two men suspected of hijacking a truck.
Pineda said she is pleased with the development in the town’s peace and order condition and vowed to continue supporting the police force to perk up their capability to solve or prevent crimes.
True to her commitment, Pineda promptly distributed to the 10 barangays here 21 units of two-way radios to enhance communication between barangay officials and municipal police. These are in addition to the 26 units already purchased and put to use in the town.
For his part, Masangkay conducted a dialogue with barangay officials for the set-up of checkpoint/barricades along roads that could be used as transit points of criminal groups.
Earlier, the municipal government intimated with businessmen in the town its plan to install close circuit television cameras (CCTV) to deter crimes.
Establishment owners were also encouraged to install CCTVs in their respective premises to minimize, if not totally eradicate, crime occurrences.
