CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Alumni officers, school administrators, special guests and members of the media gathered as one flock shepherded by chairperson and school directress Sister Mary Ignatius, OSB, at the media launch for the centennial celebration of St. Scholastica’s Academy in Pampanga on Nov. 9.

At the school’s Amrhein Hall, Sister Ignatius, along with the centennial celebration core members, presented a brief walk-through of the rich history of the institution and its core values.

“The centennial celebration will further strengthen Ora et Labora and keep the core values alive among the students and alumni as well,” she said, stressing that the 10 Benedictine hallmarks, social responsibility, and academic excellence will highlight the centennial celebration.

Meanwhile, SSA Grade 11 student Geanne Kyla Ocampo won the centennial logo making contest named “Love and Service” which, she said, was by Leonard de Vinci’s quote “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”

She shared that the logo depicts a very simple look yet profound in meaning – that through collective efforts of countless individuals, a powerful unified community with an act of Benedictine service achieves love and peace. Her use of warm colors evoked a sense of warmth in 100 years, pleasing to the eyes and bringing comfort.

Centennial/Gratitude Book committee head Rosario Songco-Ventura shared the concept of the two coffee table books – Centennial and Alumni Gratitude that will feature relevant information and milestones.

As for the centennial celebration timeline of community activities, PR and communications/ways and means committee head Maricar David-Pangilinan showed a detailed one-year calendar of events that will commence on July 2024. Tree planting, sports fest, CSR, gala night, and a concert are just some of the activities.

Awards committee head Rhodora Fernandez-Ferrer presented two important dates Feb. 10, 2025, the feast of St. Scholastica and July 2025 the Centennial Closing Ceremony that will highlight two major projects such as the opening of the archives or school museum and 100 Scholasticans Excellence Awards.

“All of the events will be officially unveiled during the grand alumni homecoming on Feb. 8, 2024. This is really a very special occasion and meaningful celebration for all.  If you are waiting for the right time, this is right time to give back, reconnect and come home,” she enthused
