The Social Security System (SSS) and Philippine Councilors League (PCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on December 15 to provide services that will ensure social security protection of more than 17,000 municipal and city councilors and their workers across the nation.

SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Regino thanked the PCL for advocating the value of SSS membership to all workers and their willingness to ensure that their constituents have access to social security through active SSS membership.

SSS and the PCL share the same objective for the improvement, protection, and promotion of the self-employed workers including their families,” Regino said.

Under the MOU, the SSS shall provide information, education, and communication materials on the SSS programs; conduct orientation and awareness campaign for the constituents of councilors with regard to the provision of the Republic Act 11199 or Social Security Act of 2018; provide assistance in the registration and remittance of PCL members’ contribution; and create, develop, and implement programs and policies for the benefit of the councilors’ constituents.

On the other hand, the PCL will support the SSS in developing policies to improve access to SSS membership and social security benefits for the benefit of LGU constituents, as well as in the awareness campaign to increase appreciation of the value of SSS membership.

I look forward to years of successful partnership with the PCL, as both organizations work for the betterment of the welfare of our self-employed workers and their families,” Regino concluded.
