CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The passage of a tax ordinance that will update the basis for tax collection is now being studied by the sangguniang panlalawigan (SP) here.
The proposed tax ordinance is expected to be signed next month and implemented next year. It will cover the general revision of property assessments and classifications in the province.
Provincial administrator Charlie Chua said it is high time to update the 23-year-old local tax code and streamline the schedule of market values (SMVs) in various municipalities.
“We can collect even more real property taxes (RPT) if the tax ordinance is updated and the revisions are implemented. More RPT collection would mean more basic services and more development programs for the people of Pampanga,” Chua said.
Local government units are required to revise SMVs and conduct general revision of property assessments and classifications every three years as provided by law.
But data from the Department of Finance showed that Pampanga’s RPT are still based on a 1994 SMV.
