Sonder House, the exclusive wine importer and mezcal distributor in the Philippines, recently hosted The Origins of Bozal Mezcal tasting class at their distribution hub in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
The session, led by sommelier Jorge Joseph, guided participants through the depth and complexity of mezcal as both tradition and art. Co-owners Caitlin Canlas-Tuazon and Catereena Canlas warmly welcomed guests, inviting them to immerse in Sonder House’s philosophy of creating experiences shaped by empathy, culture, and craftsmanship.
Guests experienced a curated lineup of premium labels, including Yuu Baal Espadín, Yuu Baal Pechuga, Bozal Tepeztate, and Bozal Jamón Ibérico.
Each offers distinct layers of aroma, character, and heritage. With over 80 varieties of wines and spirits ranging from ₱450 to ₱10,000, Sonder House offers selections that span from approachable favorites to luxury icons.
Their portfolio includes rhum, whisky, tequila, mezcal, and New World wines, catering to private collectors, weddings, and bespoke events such as slush bars and curated pairings.
Every bottle reflects vineyards and distilleries across different countries, chosen with both expertise and heart. The class also highlighted a fascinating historical link: Filipino sailors who crossed the Pacific on the Manila–Acapulco Galleons once introduced coconuts and palm-sap distillation techniques—used to make tuba and lambanog—to western Mexico.
Local communities adapted these methods to agave, laying the groundwork for mezcal and tequila production. This cultural exchange strengthens the view that Filipinos are the Mexicans of Asia, sharing deep ties in heritage and taste.
Sonder House welcomes guests daily from 1 PM to 11 PM, offering a space to explore, discover, and share stories over fine wines and spirits.
For those who prefer to savor the experience at home or during special gatherings, they also provide nationwide delivery, bringing the world of Sonder straight to your doorstep.
