Soldiers, cops overran NPA lairs

BONGABON, Nueva Ecija – Government security agents overran a suspected lair of the New People’s Army in the mountainous area of Sito Batangas, Barangay Antipolo here at about 12:30 p.mWednesday.

The police forces led by Lt. Col. Alexander Aurelio, chief of the Nueva Ecija first mobile field force, along with Philippine Army units conducted combat operation in the area and “discovered the abandoned NPA lair,” police reported.

The rebel camp can accommodate up to 50 people based on the troop’s estimate.

Also recovered in the area were several rounds of live bullets and spent shells for M-16 rifles, police said.

“Operating troops continued scouring and thorough observation is being conducted at the said area,” police added.

On Tuesday, July 21, another NPA lair was taken by combined forces from the Army’s 91st Infantry (Sinagtala) Battalion and Aurora police provincial office in Barangay Punglo, Maria Aurora town, Aurora.

The troops reportedly recovered food caches belongingto the NPA Komiteng Larangang GerilyaSierra Madre operating in the area.
