Renewable energy provider SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) Group’s Ambuklao and Binga Hydroelectric Power Plants (HEPP) located in Benguet and Magat HEPP in Isabela have been recognized as Gawad Kaligtasan and Kalusugan (GKK) regional awardees for surpassing the National Safety and Health standards set by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) on October 7 and DOLE-Region 02 on October 10, respectively.

DOLE-CAR Assistant Regional Director Emerito Narag congratulated DOLE-CAR winners for their hard work, dedication, and innovative spirit in ensuring occupational safety and health (OSH) of workers in the workplace.

SNAP’s Benguet and Magat facilities have consistently won GKK regional awards and both industry category qualifiers at the national level. In 2022, SNAP-Benguet was recognized as the national industry champion and was nominated by DOLE for the prestigious ASEAN-Occupational Safety and Health Network (ASEAN-OSHNET) Excellence Awards.

SNAP-Benguet received the regional GKK award from DOLE-CAR on October 7, 2024 in Baguio City.
SNAP-Magat received the regional GKK award from DOLE-Region 01 on October 10, 2024 in Tuguegarao City.

The ASEAN-OSHNET awarded SNAP for its health and safety program in Singapore on September 11, 2024. SNAP is one of the nine recipients of this year’s Excellence Award and the only Philippine delegation.

These recognitions spotlight SNAP’s high standards in workplace safety and health, and in ensuring that its employees operate in a secure, healthy, and inclusive environment at all times. It also reaffirms the company’s commitment to continuous improvement in terms of health and safety measures, particularly in the energy sector.

SNAP’s President and CEO Joseph Yu said, “We are immensely honored to receive this recognition. Over the years, we’ve built and fostered our safety culture to what it is now. Our people are our greatest assets, and our communities are our biggest partners. By prioritizing their safety, health, and well-being, we are not only protecting them, but also paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable future.”

ASEAN-OSHNET is a network comprising the OSH institutions or OSH units of the labor departments from ASEAN countries. It has been recognizing enterprises for exceptional safety and health programs and practices since 2016. Meanwhile, the GKK is an award given by the DOLE in recognition of outstanding achievements of enterprises and individuals in implementing successful occupational safety and health programs that respond to the needs of workers, workplaces, and their communities.
