MALOLOS CITY—An honest mall guard in Valenzuela City returned a clutch bag containing over P26,000 and other valuables to a nanogenarian shopper over the weekend.
Gladyz May Latiza, the public relations officer of SM City Marilao identified the guard as Julieto Santino of Panther Security Agency and is currently assigned in SM mall In Valenzuela City.
Latiza said Santino found a brown clutch bag beside the parking gutter of the mall over the weekend and discovered a senior citizen ID and a bundle of money amounting to P26,060.00.
Without hesitation, Santino quickly turned the money over to the mall’s Customer Relations Service (CRS) office, who contacted the owner of the clutch bag.
The owner is 96-year-old Lucio Celestino Daguno, who reportedly dropped his brown clutch bag and forgot about it after experiencing tiredness.
The SM Valenzuela CRS Team was able to get in touch with Daguno’s son and daughter after tracing their present address and contact number which were different from those in Daguno’s ID.
On Monday, Daguno together with his son and daughter’s secretary reported at the CRS office of SM Valenzuela.
Daguno managed to describe its content and had his money returned to him.
Daguno expressed gratitude to SM personnel and said that he was glad it was Santino who found his clutch bag.
For his part, Santino said he was meant to find it.
“Kung iba po (nakakuha) baka hindi na isauli dahil wala naman nagreport na may nawawala” he said.
Santino added, “masaya po sa pakiramdam na nagawa ko ang trabaho ko at nakatulong pa sa customer lalo na’t senior pa po.”
The incident is not the first time that for SM Valenzuela guards.
Last year, SM Valenzuela Domingo Pulod was cited for his exemplary honesty when he returned nearly P43,000 in cash to a Chinese national.
In another incident last year, Pulod also returned a sum of P5,000 and other valuables such as Samsung cellphone to a mall patron.
