SM joins the 2021 First Quarter Online Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill in Cabanatuan City

CABANATUAN CITY, NUEVA ECIJA – SM City Cabanatuan and SM Megacenter as the biggest establishments in this city joins the The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) first-quarter online Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 11.

Assistance Mall Manager Jay-ar Padilla said that SM employees are well trained on this kind drills by regular table top discussion and actual simulation led by the in-house Emergency Response Team (ERT) through Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) of the mall.

“Despite the pandemic, we must bear in mind the importance of keeping ourselves and our customers safe in case of earthquake. In our constant effort to promote disaster resiliency in which everyone’s involvement is necessary. So, we continue to reminding everyone to be ready.” he said.

The ceremonial pressing of the button will be held at 2 p.m. where employees watching the live stream are encouraged to “duck, cover, and hold” in their offices at the sound of the alarm.

“No evacuation drills and scenarios conducted in compliance with the minimum public health measures but we make sure that it was discussed step by step in case of earthquake will happen” he added.

SM here also has a good coordination and support from the local Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and Cabanatuan City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
