BALANGA City, Bataan: SM Foundation, Inc. has extended assistance to hundreds of families affected by super typhoon Egay in Balanga City, SM City Bataan public relations officer Paula Erika Gayeta said Monday, July 31.
The foundation’s Operation Tulong Express mission was a joint project with SM Cares, SM Markets and SM City Bataan with the support of Balanga City’s Social Welfare and Development (CSWD).
Operation Tulong Express was among the first responders in giving immediate assistance to affected families in Barangays Cataning and San Jose hard-hit by severe flash floods over the weekend.
Assistant mall manager Jhoanalyn Gatdula and volunteer employees and agencies from SM City Bataan distributed Kalinga Packs consisting of bottled mineral water, rice, canned goods and instant noodles.
“SM has consistently demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility, engaging in numerous initiatives to support the community. SM’s Operation Tulong Express specifically focuses on disaster response and relief efforts, promptly mobilizing resources to assist affected communities during calamities,” Gayeta said.
She said that CSWD head Lalaine de Leon thanked SM for its proactive approach in reaching out to the community during difficult times.
Gayeta said Henry Sy, Sr. and Felicidad Sy established SM Foundation, Inc. in 1983 to become the SM Group of Companies’ heart and to focus on social inclusion by nurturing and caring for the under-served communities where there are SM branches.
“SMFI works hand in hand with communities to create opportunities and improve lives,” she said.
