OLONGAPO CITY – Typhoon Glenda pounded this city and other areas in Zambales and Bataan with strong winds which caused flooding and damage to properties.

In an effort to help the affected areas, SM City Olongapo dispatched its team to bring relief goods to 1,000 families in Orani and Dinalupihan towns in Bataan.

In its nationwide relief efforts, SM has served thousands of families from the time Glenda entered the Philippine area of responsibility up to its aftermath. Mayor Gila Garcia of Dinalupihan & Vice Mayor Dr. Bong Galicia Jr. of Orani assisted the SM team in the distribution of relief goods in their respective towns.

They were both thankful for the help of SM. Meanwhile, a few hours before Typhoon Glenda entered PAR, SM City Olongapo had offered its car park free of charge as a  temporary shelter for vehicles. Mayor Rolen Paulino extended his appreciation to the mall for doing such humanitarian efforts for the residents of Olongapo.

One resident said, “with a strong typhoon coming in I think it would be if we parked our car in SM, libre pa ang overnight fee.” The three-storey car park was full to capacity during the onslaught of Glenda.

Despite the strong winds and torrential rains brought about by the typhoon, SM stayed open for business to cater to the needs of the customers.
